Product Description

A very unusual and quite rare 19th century French chinoiserie/Japanism dore bronze mounted and hand painted porcelain aesthetic movement clock, attributed to E. Lièvre, most probably cast by F. Barbedienne. This clock is expertly designed by the famous Edouard Lièvre and executed by Ferdinand Barbedienne. The porcelain panels have been beautifully hand painted to imitate cloisonné and Champlevé enamel. The dial is numbered in 24-karat gilt Chinese numerals and further decorated with koi fish, butterflies, flowers, birds, and fruited vines. The bronze is beautifully cast with gorgeous chinoiserie/Japanism openwork designs. The clock is mounted on four intricately designed dore bronze elephant heads.
France, circa 1870.
